Steelmaking Coal a Critical Global RESOURCE
Steelmaking coal is a critical component of the global economy today, and into the future. The North Coal Michel Coal Project will exclusively produce high-quality steelmaking coal, also known as “metallurgical coal.” Metallurgical coal is a key material in the steelmaking process. “Thermal coal” is a different type of coal used to generate power, which steelmaking coal is not used for. Demand in international and domestic steel markets is strong and is projected to grow. Steel is a key component of major infrastructure such as: buildings, bridges, mechanical equipment, and manufacturing.
Countries around the world are looking for solutions to environmental challenges to meet targets committed to under the Paris Agreement. Steel is the main material used in delivering renewable energy – solar, tidal, geothermal, and wind.
