North Coal information session highlights water quality plans The Free Press North Coal Limited, an emerging metallurgical coal company in Sparwood, B.C., held an information session on Thursday at the Fernie Chamber of Commerce. The company is focused on exploring for, and eventually producing, metallurgical coal from its proposed Michel Coal Project, in the Elk Valley’s Crowsnest coalfield. The mine will produce between 2.3 and 4 million tonnes of steelmaking coal per year for up to 25 years. North Coal donates to local community funds. The Free Press Today North Coal Limited presented $5000 donations to the Elkford, Sparwood and Fernie Community Funds. The community funds, put in place by the Community Foundation of the Kootenay Rockies (CFKR), provide grants to local organizations. Each community fund in the Elk Valley aims to provide grants to the widest possible range of organizations and initiatives including animal welfare, arts, culture, heritage, education, environment, mental health, addictions, and more.
